Yeah. 1 year already. Some days are better than others. The city is pretty pretty cool but the "freeze" is real.
Try to find a hobby. That helps.
Also feel free to send me a PM if you ever feel too depressed and want to grab a beer with a stranger.

"If you're bored than you must be boring too."....
What a moronic thing to say...

I don't think you understand how depression works... Do you think is a fucking election? Like people decide to get sad and lonely out of nowhere?

I'm glad you managed your way through the freeze but it doesn't work like that for everybody. Even if you find communities where you feel comfortable that doesn't mean that you're going to connect with people in a meaningful way.
Also everyone has different personalities. Maybe you're more extroverted and that helps you, but not everyone is like that.

I hate that patronizing opinion that you're exposing here. Like, "if you're lonely and sad, it's your fucking fault for being a loser"...really? Is that how things work in this world? That's slanted.

I still struggle with depression and am seeking help for it. When it comes to making friends and doing activities, if you don't put forth any effort then no matter where you go you'll have the same results. I put quotes around it b/c it's a line from a Piebald song and I think it counters the "Seattle freeze" notion.

It's all about the cycle of short-ish, really really really nice summer and then the dark wet winters where it's dark by 4:30 on the commute home. The first couple of years or few years even the summers lift you back up and by the time the winter rolls around it's sort of charming... You can just bundle up in layers and stay in cozy places and eat pho or whatever. But then it turns out that the summer recovery is never quite enough to offset the winter depression and you get lower and lower and lower.

I thought Seattle was supposed to be "hip" and "cultural" and "open".

Apparently these things don't do shit for depression.

But you Seattle folks make enough $ to afford to fly out every now and then to a nice sunny place, so should be good all in all?

I love Seattle. Make best of what you get. If you like to do outdoor activities, there is enough to keep you occupied and out throughout the year.
