Here are the things we are looking for;

- 1.5hr commute at rush hour to mountain view
- School rating avg 7
- 2.5M max for the price
- 3000 sqft, 4+ bedrooms
- Low crime rate
- Reasonable proximity to restaurants, shops, kids activities (gym, dance, swim, etc.)
- Nice to have— friendly neighborhood with good diversity (not like everyone is white or everyone is asian)
- Nice to have— parks, trails nearby

Currently at WA, relocating in this summer, looking for a similar neighborhoods to Bothell, New castle or Snoqulmie, decent commute and not crazy price like Bellevue.

Thanks all!

But then I see your last criteria, then none. Decent area in Bay Area are all pricey as hell. Some of them even not having good public schools but with your TC you could go private.

I live in south hayward hills. Our neighborhood is sfh 2700-3200 sqft 4-5 bedroom houses. My own house is 2900+ sqft 5B3b. Except for schools your criteria is fully met. These houses are currently 1.8-2m range.

Would people still choose Bay area over Washington in terms of weather? Rain vs. Wild fire. What is worse?

    • Weather in Bay Area is great. There are a couple of hot days, smoky days and rainy days. The rest of a year is great and I always want to be outdoor. Sometimes you want to stay indoor, take some rest and enjoy weird weather events. That’s it

California has the best weather in the world arguably. It is an unfair comparison for most except people who love snow sports. Seattle’s weather is not that bad considering winter is not cold and summer is the best. It is as good or better than many states but for some reason people despise Seattle weather by comparing to California.

yeah, i get that. but you can tell from his replies that he is deluded about what that looks like. if it was just about 3000 sq ft, 1.5 hr commute, 7+ school, 1.5 hr commute, he could just plop that data into zillow and get dozens of results. It would be almost immediately evident that his choices are basically all east bay or tri valley.

He wants a specific vibe to his neighborhood which is why he's asking for recommendations here, and doesn't really want a 1.5 hour commute. and the reality is, it doesn't really exist.

Well thanks all, I started this thread mainly just to learn about the neighborhoods bc I didnt even know what tri valley and east bay mean🤷 Also put down my reqs to see if I can find something like that, not that I am confident I can find those… regardless I learned a lot about the area, appreciate it. No need to be salty here.

Livermore, how bad is it? Crime rate higher? Full of Indians/Asians? Schools bad? Homeless? I see some houses with cheaper prices for more sqft there.

    • The ace train won’t take you all the way to Mountain View but you can check if perhaps your co has a shuttle.

    • As an aside, we just bought in Livermore and we are so excited. I think out of the entire bay it is the best bang for your buck. It’s a highly underrated city - super cute and lively downtown, beautiful trails, and lots of wineries / breweries / coffees shops. So far it’s pretty diverse, but does skew towards white. I think the reason why it’s so cheap is the same reason Pleasanton was so cheap 10 years ago. Best to buy south Livermore for nicer neighborhood and everything you’re looking for.
