Given the EO for H1B and the current long queue for GC, are you looking for alternative options such as Canada, or move back to your home country? What is the best and most equivalent option to living and working in US. #visa #h1b #greencard
Canada seems a good option. Thinking about Europe as well like London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Stockholm
Internal ? How does one even start looking? Visa etc is a hassle there as well right?
Yup Amazon is expanding in Toronto and Vancouver so hopefully there. If you get a job in these countries the visa and permanent residency process is fair and straightforward compared to the US.
And take a 50% paycut, why not?
Its not always about pay. I used to think that way. Now with 1 year old, my priorities are changing
It's not about pay for you that's why you are at Microsoft, that's already a paycut. I'm stuck here because of COVID.
And yes I'm happy where i am and with how much I make. Hope you will soon find your happiness soon! TC 280K in Bay area, 5 years experience
Nope
Why not? Do you already have a GC or have a short queue?
GC
Kannada!
I would wait out till elections. If Trump wins again then will try and move to Europe. Never understood why people prefer Canada to Europe. Europe is closer to home as well.
Where in Europe would you prefer?

The problem with the h1b visa is that lawmakers didn’t anticipate the problem of crippling backlogs in the h1b-eb route disproportionately affecting one or two large countries. Lacking the political will to fix the root cause, we have ended in a situation where 500,000 people are indefinitely on a visa meant to be temporary and highly restrictive. However, life happens, marriages happen, kids happen, you’re building a life on false hope that things will work out for the best but your visa status constantly hangs over your head like the sword of Damocles every time you go on a vacation, visit your aging parents etc. My suggestion - don’t let it get so bad. Rip the band aid off and move to a country that wants you for your skills. Forget the American Dream. I mean heck, most Americans don’t have a shot at the American Dream any more. FWIW I moved to Canada and don’t have any desire to get the US green card ever in my life. I’d rather hang by my bedroom enjoying views of the north shore mountains :)
Sadly ripping off your band aid also means ripping majority of your TC off.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Pick 2 out of the three options below - 1. Be Indian 2. Get extremely high tc (in tech) 3. Have a pathway to residency/citizenship. (Option #1 gets picked by default for ~20% of all humans ;) ) If you want to pick #1 and #2, nothing wrong but it also means you have accepted the fact that you won’t be a permanent resident and may have to leave based on a presidential whim
Politics change all the time. I am optimistic about the US elections this year. Having this said, what if you decide to move to Europe and you are unlucky enough the next president is a xenophobic prick? I think the best approach is to aim for the long term.
lol if worrying about your country folks before foreigners is xenophobic, then butter my butt and call me a biscuit
lmao
I am
Where?
Back to my country
