Kids, especially freshers from India, a word of advice for you all: NEVER join DE Shaw. Doesn't matter what role, what compensation; just avoid. Maybe, keep it just above WITCH companies if you at all want to.
Reason: There's a happy world out there. You don't have to stress yourself up and constantly push yourself to the limits for the company that doesn't care about you a single bit. Take leaves, get a vacation, live your life. Don't trust their management ever. Nobody really cares about you. The managers are always looking to save their own a*ses. Stay out. Be happy!
From a former employee, who went into depression after being there for only a year. Simply lost a whole year for not having the guts to resign on Day 1.

If you have decided to sell your soul for money be smart as a fellow IITian to at least find the highest bidder.
Welcome to retirement @Google op.
Another bait is L1 used by companies to have people sign 2-3 years bond (yup, essentially You and your family is on the hook).
The worst part about being in DEShaw is that you are made to feel second class to US employees. I never had that feeling in any other US tech firm. (Amazon, Microsoft and Expedia)
1. You get to work mostly on widely used technologies such as Java, AWS etc
2. Amazon grinds you a lot and pushes you to your upper limit. As a fresher this could be a great learning experience. WLB should be a priority may be after 5 years down the line
