A friend of mine dropped out of his CS degree abroad to move to the US after winning the diversity visa lottery. His programming skills are at CS 101 level. Are there any junior engineer or IT jobs that he can get in the bay area?

  • Maybe devops/SRE at a startup. The coding/CS/college bar for that job is much lower.

Source: I'm also a CS college dropout working as an SRE. I worked during college though so I did have experience under my belt though.

  • Why not continue the study here in the states and finish the college training? College degree isn’t everything but it is a somewhat useful bar to check your abilities. Not necessarily technical abilities but rather the ability to learn, to focus for 4 years and to conduct research and solve problems when given somewhat vague requirements (you get them mostly in your 4th year).
