[India] What's wrong with tech companies?

Aug 23, 2021 30 Comments

After trying for months, I got 3 offers, out of which 2 companies rescinded their verbal offer.
One is Limeroad, another is Grab. I can't fucking believe it. WTF is wrong with them? I can't believe it. And I thought getting and clearing the interviews was hard.
I don't know what to do anymore. I called off my Google interview due to the Grab offer because it was for Web Solutions Engineer role. Fuck it, man. I stopped leetcoding, now I have to start again.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkk

#grab
#limeroad

P.S.: Help getting me interviews if possible

This happens all the time. Happened to my colleague at Rubrik after a written offer. Happens cause many times recruiters to fill pipelines give high pay estimates ask you to interview but internally they cannot pay at that level. Also sometimes they get cheaper candidates. Never stop interviewing with firms after verbal. Till you sign an offer and move to background verification do not cancel any offer. So its just learning experience for you. Especially smaller firms which do not have processes / startup kind of firms indulge in such practices. Larger firms will just give you an offer saying this is max and take it or leave it. Infact they will generate an initial written offer first.

So one should start notice period only after signing an offer?

Of course thats common sense. If your notice is like 30 days preferably post your background check too. Generally this happens in a week.

Verbal offers are only valid in a good intention basis. Personally I would never consider it an offer till I get a written one. If the company wants me to commit, they can expedite the process and get me that in written.

    • I can understand that, but why not hire a candidate who excelled in all the interviews? Why are you fucking interviewing them in the first place? Did I beg them?

You need to understand, hiring is not purely merit basis. It's based a combination of factors like merit, cost to company, return of investment, etc. You can't guarantee hire based on interviews. But a written offer letter is something that's expected to be the final word.

They probably got someone on lower budget. Don’t take verbal offer as final thing. Also you can’t blame anyone but yourself

What justification did they give for rescinding offers?

    • Limeroad just ghosted me. Grab told me they will at max match my current base which is 14.5, and told me that I would be a fool to join if I have an offer of 20 base already which I do have.
And earlier the Grab recruiter told me I will get an offer of 22 base.

Okay basically they never made an offer; not rescinded.
Anyway yes, this is very unprofessional especially ghosting part.
