Virtual interviews without whiteboard??

Apr 2, 2021 11 Comments

I have an interview coming up with FANG india. I feel I am better able to explain my thoughts on paper by drawing or visually, you can say. That’s because I think by writing.
EDIT: I am mainly concerned with the brainstorming part of the interview. While I’m thinking on my paper, I do want there to be a long period of silence.
Now had he been able to see what I’m writing, I could explain to him what direction I’m trying to head into.
Some white boarding tools that I have used are extremely unusable, takes hours to draw simple stuff. This has put me into endless worry.
Can I keep a whiteboard behind me? My recruiter says no need, verbal will do. I just want to understand that how is it that people are managing to convey their ideas during the brainstorming part especially. Once you get the idea, writing code and comments should be easy.
Thanks

    • Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it! I might sound like I’m saying the same thing but please hear me out. First I can’t draw or brainstorm on editor. I can only write comments. I’ll just speak out what I’m writing I guess and hope he follows what I’m saying. Should I consider buying a tablet or is that going overboard?

Tablet is good for system design. For coding I feel it's overkill

Buy a drawing tablet and use ms paint, or use a mouse like me an Alpha Chad Leetcoder

  • Spend a little and get an iPad + Pencil, helps with system design.
You'll also need to pick a whiteboard online and practice using it.
