I was given a verbal offer from the recruiter as follows:

Base: 150k
Stocks: 60k over 2 years
Sign-on Bonus: 25k over 2 years

This would bring TC to $197k per year before yearly bonus. Is there room for negotiation and where would I negotiate on? Any advice on negotiation is also appreciated.

TC: ~$215

  • You can easily get more of everything. I got the below offer just recently -

    Base- 160k
    Stocks-160k/4
    Bonus- 50k/2
    YOE - 3

  • Push for 250k stock/4. I don't think they would budge on base. Remember the refreshers are peanuts, so whatever you lock in during negotiations would be the major part of your compensation for next 4 years.

    • Seems like a weak counter offer. You should look up on how to negotiate. The way it usually works is you ask for something much higher and then the recruiter tries to low-ball you and then both of you end up at some common middle ground. You are starting at the low end, you might end up getting something even lower

    They are lowballing you very hard. Not sure about base, but there is room for some increase in base.

    For stocks, ask for thrice than what they have given you, $60k/2 is a joke.

    Sign on can easily be $50k/2

  • Base is good. Stocks seem like a joke. Do you have competing offers? You should definitely push for more stocks. Refreshers are negligible at Microsoft. So your starting stocks have to be good enough to compensate

      I don’t have competing offers aside from my own salary, I’ve only interviewed for msft. How much can I push for stocks?

    • I think you should atleast ask for 300k over 4 years. Compare with numbers from levels fyi. The times of crazy stock growth are mostly over with expected sideways movement this and next year. So such low numbers means your TC will definitely stagnate
