Florida vs New York

I love these comparisons from the antivax crowd about how Florida is doing great, and "what about New York" from the early pandemic. So let's give a current status update, because I don't want there to be any confusion.
---------------
New York
Population: 19.45mil
Total deaths: 54,181 (278.5 in 100k)
Deaths/day: 33 (+0.17/100k per day)

Florida
Population: 21.48mil
Total deaths: 48,772 (227 in 100k)
Deaths/day: 350 (+1.63/100k per day)
---------------

35 days until the crossover. Last time I posted this about 2 weeks ago it was 80 days until the crossover.

And this is comparing a pre-vaccine New York against a post-vaccine Florida, so it's even more unfair to make this comparison. Florida is currently doing about 10x worse than New York.

Florida has absolutely zero moral or medical authority with regards to covid. Never use them as a positive example again.

I don't stay home, I won't visit the hellscapes of Florida or, my prior home, Texas, and I'm not a sheepie republican who is following nutjobs instead of protecting my own and other's health. We got vaccinated. And then we still conceived and I'm currently expecting.

Also more old ppl in Florida so you'd expect more fatalities. This little policy experiment does not have enough controls

It's even more striking when you consider the NYC population density which led to rapid and unavoidable spread in the early days as compared to how spread out FL can be in general. Nothing can come in comparison to NYC yet FL has vast resources to stave off the ridiculous numbers they're now reporting (which are still unlikely to be accurate and reporting below real numbers because that's what they do there).

Incompetence of FL leadership at its finest.

  • Yeah let's ignore that Florida has a higher elderly population, and obesity percentage. Yall never put in the full picture - only the ones that go with your narrative πŸ™„.

  • Florida like last year peaks in July/Aug. Northeast seasonality is coming up. Will you post then? Did you post when CA was #1 in January?
