Does anyone track their own performance vs peers by looking at github insights? Would managers give it any weight if I referenced to it when asking for a raise/promotion?

FWIW I contribute about 5x the commits & lines of code compared to what the rest of the team does... I work 40 hours / wk.

Commits and lines of code are not good measures of productivity or impact. Focus on the results of those commits and lines of code when you speak with your manager.

There is a product called GitPrime that aims to provide better managerial insights to provoke conversations and growth. Commits and LOC don’t tell the whole picture, especially for identifying high performers. I have found that they are very good indicators to spot the low performers, though.

Care to elaborate? Is it not about how much I get done but the quality? And if I include data points about my quality of work also being better....... or do managers just not care about this / should I start slacking off like the rest of the team?

Managers that make any decisions based on commit or LOC counts are bad news, run away.
