How did you get an interview with exclusive companies before having faang on your resume?

Regardless of pay, some companies are hard to get interviews with. Uber, Microsoft, and Citadel come to mind for me personally. Whereas Meta and Amazon might interview literally everyone. Other than having big tech companies on your resume, what else helped you to get high response rates for interviews?
