planning to go to Europe for the first time this June for 2.5 weeks. Any itinerary recommendations? Whats the best flight destination (starting city) from SFO? Any other tips?

(also anyone know of a good chase ultimate rewards travel partner with routes from sfo that would be a good deal?)

LOL, Twitter and Oracle you guys consider SF safer?!

That's pure FUD, if you're referring to terrorist attacks of the recent years. They barely add up to the annual homicide rate in SF alone and don't forget the attacks in the US.

People get shot or stabbed every week in the Mission and other neighborhoods where most of us here hang out.
Nobody gets shot in Europe, no bar-fight shootings, no school shootings, no robberies at gunpoint, no drive-bys, no shootings on the ffin freeway?! Oh right, nobody has guns to begin with...

Europe is much safer than any US city.

This Adobe guy is correct, and you Twitter and Cisco guys live in your own fantasy world. I'm European, been to many European countries, and the worst shit hole I could find over there was just kind of similar to any average American city. I love SF btw, but safety wise you cannot compare.

  • If you are <35 I recommend contiki bus tours. They are fun, well organized and the easiest way to see many stops without much planning. The guides are pretty good and will tell you he most popular destinations in each city.

Question about schengen visa. How does one get those flight reservation/itineraries/booking or whatever the consulates call it for the visa interview? It would be stupid to pay for the flights until you secure the visa. I saw some websites that say they can get the itinerary with a valid booking number for a nominal charge, but then i also read posts on quora saying those websites are scams. Can someone share experiences about how to get those itineraries?

Chase UR transfers to British Airways (oneworld - Avios) and you have a direct SFO to LHR. Cheaper and more modern fleet is Aer Lingus (oneworld), but they fly into DUB from SFO.
You can fly low cost between any major European city with Ryanair for $50-100. Destinations: London, Paris+Southern France, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome +Tuscany, Berlin, Brussels+Ghent, Amsterdam, Prague.
Haven't been to the Nordic countries yet, but hear great things about Copenhagen and others.

From sfo most direct way is to use chase points and transfer to singapore airlines and book a star alliance award on united or Lufthansa to London, Frankfurt, or Munich. Usually better value than transferring directly to united, especially if you want biz class
