My official title is “Tech Support Engineer”, but my boss told me to just focus on development work and not worry about helping end users anymore because of the great value I provide through dev work.
To describe my daily duties in a nutshell:
Various departments go to my boss, describe a problem to him, and he simply tells me to engineer the solution via code. I write the programs and the accompanying unit tests, submit for code review to the SRE team, and release via our CI/CD system.
I’m the only person on the Tech Support team doing this kind of work, everyone else just does user troubleshooting and break/fix things. I think I should try to join the SRE/DevOps team and get paid of more since I’m doing that work anyway?
