There are growing whispers and talks about this in the valley, and new startups like Sonder that have a similar business model but with a greater focus on making larger margins and cutting more costs.
One obvious advantage that Airbnb does have however is its current user base. It also has acquired several companies as it tries to become a complete, end to end travel platform.
All this to say that they seem to be doing things to continue to grow, but you should research more and talk to folks within the company before making any bullish claims
This year we may not be profitable since we increased our marketing spend this year, which could be because of whatever strategy executives has. No idea on it.
If we want we can cut marketing
Spend anytime and remain profitable but again I don’t know about growth strategy or anyone on blind. Unlike uber, lyft, we work ; Airbnb business model is profitable so no need to do layoffs. On contrary, we slowed our hiring so that we never have to do layoffs.
