Is Databricks worth going through their LONG interview loop

Honestly this company's interview process seems ridiculous which makes me think of this worth the effort at all! There is the initial technical phone screen, then 5 rounds of technical onsite interviews, then a take-home project, then checking the referrals and if you pass all these, a team match.

I'm interviewing for a senior software engineer position.

  • Recruiter straight up told me to practice topcoder div2 500 problems and esp. dynamic programming. I looked at tagged questions on leetcode where majority tagged hard. First red flag.

Process was 1 phone, 1 beh. round, onsite and take home (not a simple project either) Aaaand ref check.... Too long of a process second red flag.

Whatever the fuck their valuation is this is not a good way to hire good engineers, at most gate keeping. I have better things to do with my time.

I heard lots of terrible stories about DB's interview. However, my experience with them is extremely good. No phone screen, no take home project, every interviewer is nice. Don't know if it's because I have strong reference or because it's staff swe role or they knew I have related background. I've recommended DB to a few friends and their experience are all positive so far.

There are lots of googlers joining. And they got many great engineers too. However, business is not simply about how good the engineers are. I do hope it exceeds Snow since I'm joining😁

Databricks is continually innovating and growing fast which makes me feel it will eventually eat snowflake’s lunch.

  • I did the screen there. Gave me some ridiculous LC hard problem that I'm pretty sure maybe 5% of candidates would come close to solving. Can't remember the problem now. It was a variation of a low acceptance LC hard. Glad I didn't move forward tbh. The culture seems very elitist. The interviewer sounded like he was ready to give me a no before the question had even started. Also the company is already overvalued.
