WTF Waymo

Dec 19, 2018 23 Comments

Was contacted by Waymo to interview. Told them I wanted time to prep. A while later they sent me an email notice about my upcoming phone screen date/time, which I had never scheduled. Cancelled it and asked to reschedule. They then sent me another email about my newly scheduled phone screen date/time. Told them I needed to reschedule that one too and that I would let them know some times that worked for me. A bit later I get an email that they decided not to hire me. 😂
I mean, I feel like I dodged a bullet but WTF.

You blew them off twice and you’re bummed that they went elsewhere?

How did I blow them off when they were scheduling me for things without consulting me? What kind of company does that? And I’m not bummed at all. But I am very entertained by the arrogance in how they conducted themselves.

Unemployment is under 1% in IT. The world doesn't revolve around you my man, they found someone else who actually wanted the job and wasn't wasting their time. Sorry it didn't work out for you, best of luck with your job "search"

Irecruit, your responses are hilarious! You totally come off as an immature jerk. A month is a decent prep time.

Usually companies let them know in advance if it’s not gonna pan out and their time restrictions. Looks to me that it was Waymo’s fault for not communicating it right. Probably a stuck up recruiter.

Personal experience is recruiters do ask candidate to provide a range of time slots available before scheduling, but I wonder your responses being cancel & “would” let them know what time works for you instead of proposing an alternative time right away makes you sound arrogant, insincere and difficult. Also, was it an initial phone screen with the recruiter? If it was it should be more of chat and at that point it would be less than 10% promising of hiring you so the more difficult it is the more likely they will lose interests.

No I get it. Scheduling somebody when they haven’t agreed with a time is just ridiculous. But telling a small startup you want a few months to prep is also a pass. They’re not going to want to wait for you if they don’t have to. And they clearly didn’t need to wait for you.

I don’t think you’re missing out on a huge opportunity anyways.

This could be poor recruiting now that I look at it. OP could have been 100% clear and if the recruiter hears something else or writes something else, whole new ball game.

      Roll on OP.

Why did you accept an interview for the position if you were not “ready”? Don’t waste their time. They have roles to fill. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

My thoughts too, didn’t know it’s possible to ask for 1-2mths to prep... didn’t that say something about you’re not good /on top of your job?

Of course it’s possible to ask for 1-2 months prep. How do you think I got into Facebook and Microsoft and got onsites to google and amazon? Just ask recruiters.
