Hi all, I am getting an offer for senior software engineer from a startup in the Boston area. I want to keep it name private as the engineering team is still quite small.

Base : 140k
Bonus: 15%
Stock Option: ( don’t know how much)

My current TC at SFDC is about 150k

I have 5 YOE

Do you think it’s a good offer?
The company has a good rep for work/life balance

$150 seems really low for SMTS in Boston. Regardless, if you want the $$$, a public company is probably "safest" since you can more accurately value stock compensation.

Literally my experience with WF. I gave a range, went through the process, negotiated the offer, and came in at a good point.

Edit: It definitely helped that I was coming from a solid compensation position at SFDC.

At Wayfair, if you state desired TC ahead of time, they will pre-level you properly at interview. It helps for the committee on the panel and type of questions.

Senior software engineer TC top of band at Wayfair is 250k. I think you're selling yourself short for the currently super hot Boston market on senior software engineers. Especially if the company is not public, you're stuck at the company until vesting.

  • If your new company is truly a start-up, then that’s a pretty good package.. do you know if they intend to ipo and ia your stock ISO (ones you have to buy) or RSU (ones you don’t have to buy)

To be honest I am not sure whether these are ISO or RSU . But they will be sending the offer letter to me by the end of the week. From what I have read on Glassdoor the stocks seems to be RSU. I am not sure if they will IPO any time soon. But the ceo sold his previous company for 5.4 billion

People at the startup you are referring to generally get paid more than this with a 5 YOE. Like 155k base. But why leave Salesforce?
