It's time we put our money where our mouth is. Since most companies don't hire diverse workforces (according to visionaries like Bozoma St John), maybe we can force their hand through boycott. Thoughts?
Do you know coal mines lack so much diversity - and nobody is fixing it
Let's boycott everyone who talks about diversify too much.

The business of professional sports lacks diversity, lets get started.
Get started with what? You not understanding the origin of diversity initiatives? It's not about trying to ensure there's equal representation of a bunch of groups, contrary to that being how it's often described. It's about playing a part in a systemic correction of a long-standing feedback loop of discrimination that led to the inequalities to begin with. If there were a long history of white guys being rejected from professional sports because they were white, because they could never learn to play sports growing up, or because their parents never exposed them to sports because of socioeconomically-induced cultural differences, then you'd perhaps have a parallel. D&I only looks ridiculous when you refuse to view it as a complex problem.
“If there were a long history of white guys being rejected from professional sports because they were white, because they could never learn to play sports growing up, or because their parents never exposed them to sports because of socioeconomically-induced cultural differences, then you'd perhaps have a parallel.” Replace white with minorities/women and sports with tech jobs
Why not start earlier and boycott colleges that let minority students choose their own majors? Oh, wait....
I'm all for programs that encourage more participation and smooth the path for traditionally disadvantaged candidates, but the idea that there is an even remotely equal hiring pool that companies are just ignoring is ridiculous.
As a diversity advocate: I agree with you. People who try to pretend there's nothing wrong with the pipeline are delusional and not helping anything. But then you have to ask: now what? You can say "pipeline, not my problem," but that doesn't change anything. If you believe you have a vested interest in growing the diversity of your company over time, you want to do something to improve it. There's no perfect way to do that. But there are imperfect ways that absolutely make a dent where you enhance opportunities for underrepresented groups, which has a very clear feedback effect in improving upstream issues and making change both happen and "stick" in terms of retention.
Does gender/race has causality in nonequal representation? You really need to examine this by partial out all related variables. Hypothesis: If the causal chain is different gender/race has a preference for college major/high school courses and the education/interest/talent is really affecting your job selection. Then it's absurd to blame the hiring.
Tech is too tribal today. It is more so than it was in the 80s. Remember when Jobs talked about engineers who would have been artists in another time in history? Look around: is that still true? I know several people who came to tech from unusual backgrounds (myself included), but there are not nearly enough of them. If there were more different people IN GENERAL, I would assert that it would also not be so strange to be a woman or a racial minority in that environment. The value of diversity will be realized if it breaks up the existing cliques and (re)introduces civility into the tech workplace. That’s all it needs to do.
Yeah, boycott them. And then people who go to work to just ... well, work (!) Will see less idiots like you.
How many females or under represented people are on the iPhone hardware team?
Who gives a shit? And more importantly why? Unless there are disproportionate amount of unemployed tech women or under represented people, why is it even a concern You cannot produce engineers from thin air
I personally support diversity as an ability to provide different look at a problem and I think everyone is ok with it. But I’ll never support diversity as hiring benefits (like race, sex, origin quota). This is not diversity, this is discrimination.
Dumbest post I've seen in a while. Congrats OP you're an asshole who focuses too much on people's race and gender.
Sure bozoma will use standard Uber tactics of calling everyone else useless
