What the actual f**k, guys. Who’s the genius behind the Windows “update” that hijacks your computer to peddle Edge?
I booted up my wife’s win10 laptop for the first time in a few weeks and was greeted with one of those wonderful “Windows is configuring your update” screens with the oh-so accurate progress bar.
10 minutes later, after finally getting to open Chrome to check something, I’m immediately greeted with a blue full screen message: “We’ve updated Windows to bring you a brand new web browser, built for Windows 10” followed with a popup “Check out the new Microsoft Edge” without any visible way to close it and continue using your computer. I opened Task Manager and nope’d the f**k out of that 💩.
At first I thought it was a virus. On this 4K laptop the blue full screen message was all blurry. Surely MSFT has learned (1) not to pull this type of stunt in the first place, and (2) to at least get the DPI right if it did. Right?
Nope. https://www.theverge.com/21310611/microsoft-edge-browser-forced-update-chromium-editorial
Adding Edge to the taskbar and desktop was a nice touch.
I guess they call this Edge because they’re flirting with the edge of decency.

Imagine if your car manufacturer pushed an update that prevented you from turning on your car before playing an ad for the next model year on the radio?
