Got offer in a good team. Want to think long term and plan to find a company where I can stay a few years. My concerns are:

1) Company future (which may not offer a long term career prospect).
2) Potentially stagnant/falling stock value (which may be financially harmful).

I am sure other Dropboxers had this concerns. What made you choose Dropbox?

Dropbox is a great place to work. The people and the culture are amazing. The pay and benefits are good. Sadly the company can’t get aligned on a consistent vision on how to remain relevant. We love our tech and are very pleased with it.

If tweaking and refining are areas of interest then please join. If you’re interested in pushing the envelope and trying new things, then keep looking.

Dropbox isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Read that as a sign of stability as well as an indictment of mediocrity.

I love it at Dropbox. I have 90% of the TC at Facebook E5 or equivalent and amazing WLB, especially in these tough times of wfh (400k TC before stock appreciation at IC3)

There’s stability here in that we aren’t over reaching by hiring excessively, nor are we in a time of laying off. Our numbers are strong and while Wall Street doesn’t see us as a great investment we don’t tend to swing too wildly. Sure, 18-24 a share isn’t “amazing” but I plan on being here 4+ years to get my full grant and refreshers. If the stock price remains the same of what my initial grant value is then I have lost nothing.

Hitting the jackpot and having stock appreciate wasn’t on my list of things I considered. I’m realistic with a family and just want to have a stable income to provide and live within my means.

I am an IC3 but I moved into this IC3 role from an external EM role. I wanted my WLB back and missed the technical day to day work when I decided to move from EM back to IC. Previously I was an EM for about 4 years at a different company.

I think it's fine if you are planning to stay for upto 2-3 years.

It's a great place to get paid and do nothing. If you want to rest and vest this is the place to be. But the company is a mess, there is no future IMO. Leadeeahio is not in touch with reality, investors rightfully don't believe we are worth anything more than $20 per share and the features. we are working to release for the next year are doomed to fail (tried them last year they failed. Trying them again). I am leaving for these reasons.

IC2, 300K TC. And yes recruiters don't give a crap. I had a recruiter tell me that she got similar comments about why leaving Dropbox form other candidates.

    • Recruiters do care who is more likely to get an offer so there’s value in FAANG. G/F on resume pretty much guarantees you get interviews everywhere.
