We have a blind employee at IBM that focuses on educating various teams on accessibility best practices for software applications. Not just for visually impaired but the full spectrum of disabilities.

At Apple, we have some blind UX design folks focused on accessibility. They actually do pretty cool stuff and I’m sure his software development background would be well received in similar positions.

I got a 43" monitor to help me keep working as a dev; no I'm not trolling, and I do recognize that won't work for everyone. It has been immensely helpful to me with my worsening eyesight and adjusting to the loss of one eye.

Another option is to seek a role as PM over accessibility, particularly on a product he knows well to get started in the role.

Alternatively, I know a blind customer support engineer who spends a decent portion of her time evangelizing new things our company does to make experiences accessible to everyone, so pretty similar to the prior response.

  • CEO. It's always the blind leading the blind anyway

  • Has he tried using a screen reader? I don't know how hard it is to transition, but I know there are blind developers that do so with the use of screen readers.
