In terms of future opportunities (moving onto big tech, faang, etc.) in data science/analytics which of these 2 companies makes the most sense for my first job? Choice 1: Navy Federal Credit Union Pros: I think I will have more growth/upskilling opportunities here Better pay Decently well-known "Data Scientist" title as opposed to Data Analyst Cons: Potentially not as good on the resume as my other choice Choice 2: General Motors Pros: Bigger name Cons: Less pay Possibly less growth Essentially I'm asking what matters more for the future between growth and company brand (if there's even a big enough difference in brand between these two) Thanks #data #dataanalytics #datascience #generalmotors #gm #nfcu
How much better is the credit union pay?
Would be ~80k plus 9% bonus GM would be 60k plus 10% bonus plus a decent raise structure (~8-10% per year for first 3 years)
I don’t know anything about GM, but NFCU is pretty Olde-Timey in the ol’ data science area. Generally-speaking, retail banking is that way. In any case, it looks like you’re just starting out. The thing to do for most people at this stage is to hop like mad. Go to GM or wherever, see if you like it, hop again. At your current career point and TC, you’re very interchangeable to employers and they to you.
General Motors is better, but Navy federal credit Union sounds more respectable since your impact is people from the Navy
