I am currently an L5 APSCI at Amazon with a high probability track to an L6 promotion in Q1 2022. I am currently working remote but moving to the Bay Area in a couple of months due to family reasons. Given Amazon's draconian compensation structure and political constraints at my org, my current comp can be categorized as peanuts. On top of this my team has said they can't put me on SF ranges after I move. I am also bored at my job and 2.5 years into my career, I am feeling like I have stopped learning. I want to move to something different where I get to learn a bit more and also get paid more. I don't mind a slightly worse WLB. I have been interviewing for the last month or so and have the following offers, and would love to hear what you all think I should do -
PhD + 2.5 yoe
1) Baseline (current team) - Boring work, TC - 285k (2022), 340k (2023 if not promoted), 420k (2023 if promoted). I have added the prospective future TC as I know them and should be a factor in the decision.
2) Amazon Ads team SF L5 APSCI - Interesting work where I can learn, TC - 340k (2022). Team has said I have a high chance of Q1 promo in 2023, then TC will be 450k (2023).
3) Meta Infra Research DS X5 (not sure E or IC) SF - 380k (Didn't cross the behavioral bar for E5 Research Scientist)
4) SNAP Applied Research Scientist - 391k
Personally, I am leaning towards the Amazon Ads team as research at Amazon is really good if its a good team. I know the manager personally and have heard nothing but good stuff about the person. I feel like this will be a great learning opportunity at a lower risk of not changing companies, but I might be wrong.
