I think it’s going to be a huge mistake to move to AWS, unless you came in as a principal or MAYBE senior.

AWS is the market leader, but what does that translate to as an eng? Unrealistic expectations from management, being treated poorly, bad Dev tooling. Terrible ops.

I took AWS over GCP a while ago and am regretting it. Having AWS as a market leader means nothing as an eng. oh, and amazon is shit at promoting people or rewarding people.

Working at a non market leader doesn’t mean it’s worse. Sure even if GCP doesn’t supersede AWS, google still has a money machine (ads) and will be fine.

Yea, I’m in aurora. I have seen many people leaving in the past 3-4 months. Multi master is a failure, the entire project got canceled

I used to work in E Palo Alto too, but not Aurora. It's a shit show. Promotions are extremely political and more than half my org's members in EPA have quit.

Avoid working here unless you're PE or higher.

I don’t regret working at aws. I agree with the unrealistic expectation part, too much fire fighting. It’s still sustainable comparing to the workload I used to have at CMU. It’s a rewarding experience as I’m still in the early stage of my career. Lots of impactful work, got to learn a lot of what’s required and necessary to build/release a new product/feature. Though I’m relocating back to Canada and joining GCP in fall for personal reason.

More customers only means more ops and on-call for you. It also makes it super hard to execute on new features, and you know Amazon doesn't tolerate failed execution.
