I lost both my parents, have no siblings and am 22 years old, graduated from a tier 2 college in India.

I have been working with Microsoft for almost 10 months now and want to explore new opportunities. I am happy with my manager and team but I feel a very slow learning growth for my early tech career due to the slower work pace at Microsoft. I want to move out of my comfort zone.

I am considering moving out of India, preferably London for greater exposure in life. I started my preparation recently and Meta was my main target. But with the hiring freeze news all over Blind, I am very confused about what is the best move for me.

1. I know other companies like Bloomberg, Yelp, Amazon, etc that also hire directly from India. Will a switch from Microsoft to any of those be worth it?

2. If I join any other company and move to London, will it be easier for me to interview with Meta/Google in the future as compared to India?

3. I am not yet sure if I want to permanently settle abroad or come back to India in the future, all I want is to be happy and live a good life from here on. Already been through a lot in recent years. I really want a change and I think moving abroad will give me a good start again. But I do not want a step back in my career with this switch. What companies should I be targeting in London?

I will be thankful if you can suggest some companies that actively hire from India with < 1 YOE. A referral will also help :)

I am also open for Canada but could not find such companies.

P.S. I did my internship at Amazon so have a first hand experience of extremely poor WLB there, but I appreciate the learning opportunities and ownership I had. Might consider a team with good WLB (I give WLB a good weightage)

For Canada, both Amazon and Meta hire directly from India. Amazon and Google hire for Poland as well.

Just move to a company or city where you know some people. Or else move to a city with a lot of colleges in it.

You are young and a fresh start might really work out for you.

Just go to any big name in Europe and travel the continent and make new relationships. You can optimise for TC later.

If you are ambitious, you can work for a near ipo company. These days remote work is available for many companies.

My career advice will be to figure out the area (Fintech, ML, autonomous driving, mobile etc) where you want to work, then figure out the best company in that area and then either work remotely or move to that country. Be open to change if/when you find that area or company is not a good fit.

Thank you. That makes sense. I will prefer relocating to a different country rather than working remotely from India.
My only question here is leaving Microsoft for any random company for the sake of international tranfer worth it for my career growth?

As I said first priority should be area, then the company, then the location.

There are many companies in Germany recruiting from India directly. However the pay will be at par with Indian pay even after currency conversion. If savings isn’t something super important to you then look at deliveroo, zalando.
