Unless you're planning on giving your delivery driver their tip in the form of a kiss I feel like you'll probably be fine.

You guys are missing the entire point. Youโ€™re working hard to avoid shaking hands with the delivery driver, but donโ€™t care that a nameless person has had their hands right in your food.

Basically everything we do carries some risk of death. Eating carries a risk of choking, allergic reaction, poisoning, infectious disease, etc. The risk of death may vary between eating food from home, or from a restaurant, or from the trash, or wherever you get food. On the restaurant side, there may be an increased risk of death (as opposed to food made at home) from food borne illness like ecoli. That risk can be lessened by food handling standards. But, there is a risk that the restaurant fails in their food handling standards and thus increases your risk of catching a food borne disease. With COVID there is a non-zero (but still unknown) risk of catching the disease from food prepared at a restaurant. Again, food handling standards should lessen this risk. There are other diseases that are transmitted similarly like the cold or flu and food hygiene standards lessen the risk of those diseases so COVID risk should be lessened as well. You can also take efforts to lessen your risk like removing the food from its packaging and then washing your hands before eating. To contrast that from food prepared at home, there is a risk of illness from grocery store food too. Workers may be ill, the food may have been contaminated in shipping, or it may have been contaminated when it was being made, etc. Your food handling standard may be inadequate to reduce risk. Do you always wash your veggies? Did you let that cheese sit out too long? So, given that you must eat and given that everything has risks and different ways of mitigating risk, it is up to you to balance those risks, their mitigations to make decisions.

Because COVID increases the risk of dying from food borne illness (presumably, since we donโ€™t have numbers yet), doesnโ€™t mean that eating takeout will cause your death. Itโ€™s also unlikely that COVID on takeout will materially increase your odds of death from eating since youโ€™re much more likely to die from salmonella or listeria.

I mean it is 50 50 right. If the driver got the virus, it is very likely to pass to u if u do not take enough precaution. By that I mean disinfect everything that got delivered to you and wash ur hands and try to do no contact exchange.

No, weโ€™re assuming the person takes the same precautions as they would with other activities. So the risk is not 50-50
