Amazon TPM Offer

Jan 28 6 Comments

Have an offer from Amazon. I feel like my career is stuck at Qualcomm as an Engineering Manager. No growth in the division so promos are hard. Have to deal with an insensitive VP but good thing is I don't have to deal with him. My boss deals with him. WLB is definitely great though and good benefits.
After reading a lot of PIP culture at Amazon, I am scared of joining. Even though the TCs
are same, I just want to GTFO of Qualcomm. I am ready to work hard and will probably move back to engineering management at Amazon or other companies after an year or so as a TPM.
Can anyone throw some light on pip culture for tpm roles? Will tpms get help from their manager if need be? I was always helping my reports when they are stuck. I am not sure if I get a supportive manager though.

The only reason a Non-SDE can put on a dev list (pip) is when they don’t even know how read/write.

I worked at both Qcom and AMZN. If you are really interested in taking your career to next level, Amazon will give you 10x opportunities than Qualcomm.

I had switched from Qcom to AMZN when I was single (under 30). But if I had to do it with kids at 40 yrs, aah , I don’t know. I had worked multiple weekends, 12 -15 hrs/ day etc. i don’t know I can do that when I am 40.

To answer your question, usually TPM managers are helpful but it lot depends on team/org. DM me if you would like to discuss more
