Linkedin Sr.SWE offer Sunnyvale CA

Jan 12 25 Comments

I just got an offer from Linkedin recruiter.
Base: $160K + RSU $250K/ 4 years + $30K Sign on bonus + $20K Bonus

And she kept emphasizing my yearly salary would be $270K. I started looking into it. All I see is $240K/year and she keeps on adding sign on bonus too.

Also, when I looked at levels.fyi, I see median value of $310K with $105K worth of stocks. Are those stocks every year? I am confused, seems like my recruiter wanted me to accept the offer for a really low numbers. Am I on the right path in understanding?

What could I ask for this level?

YOE: 10 years
Competitive offer: $238K from Wayfair, Austin, TX

With 10 YOE it should be at least staff level.
I have seen $240k TC for SWE. For senior it is above $300k. Think before you sign this. Looks like a lowball and downlevel.

Don’t settle for anything less than 300k

  • I feel like you want to work for linkedin even though it might be a low ball. When you have clarity, go ahead and execute your plan of learning for a year or two and then interview again for staff. Don’t worry about the diff now. Just don’t forget to execute your plan.

Feels a bit low although levels need to be taken with a bag of salt as well, since people add TCs post stock appreciation, promotions etc. I echo the point about staff. Also, your wayfair Austin offer may be a wee bit stronger compared to a Sunnyvale offer.

  • That’s the number I got almost 5 years ago as sr swe and I know ppl are getting sr swe offer with 185k base about 2 years ago.

This is definitely lowball. Also for 10 yoe you should go for staff. It might be easier to pass the interview as staff than to get promoted to staff at LI.

    • Basically I am not from CS background. I started on DS and algos in mid 2020. After about 2 years of rigorous preparation and 14 job rejects, I landed on these two offers. I know staff is not easy to crack. So, I wanted to work in a company like linkedin, where I can learn and give staff interview after 1-2 years.
