Thank you for reading,
I’m a part time masters student with a concentration in ML. So far I completed nearly 4 / 10 courses required to graduate. I’m having a hard time juggling work and school especially when project due dates arrive.
Are there any pros or cons that I’m missing by quitting Aug 15, focusing on school, and applying for summer internships? I’m thinking that this way I’ll get my bonus and have enough time to apply to FANG summer internships before December. Outside of internships, my work experience is composed of 3.5 years as a full time software engineer on the same MSFT team.
Pros:
- graduate before the end of 2020 instead of 2021
- get experience at another company
- explore side projects and learn skills outside of the MSFT stack
- save money by living with parents
- network with other interns
Cons:
- immediate financial rewards
- 401k match
- 26, so I can’t depend on my parents health and dental insurance
- living with parents
- loss of progress toward 4 weeks vacation tenure?
YOE 4, TC 190k, 26 y/o, L62, 300k total in savings or stocks

Go for it. If you can get internship at FANG, then for the full time you can use your yoe to negotiate a higher level than entry. Even that didn't work, you can still get promoted fast (in 1 year) to the second level.
