im currently in the interview process and had a hiring manager phone screen 4 days ago. at the end of the call, he said “we are currently screening other applicants. if we move you fwd, we’ll have a video chat / onsite.” so was that code that I didnt get it? my paranoia is settling in since they havent updated me yet... what other catch lines do hiring managers use that hint a rejection

You’re cut. If they like you they get giddy when talking to you and at the end say they want to have you come for an on-site. They then ask you what you think about that to put you on the spot and see how you react. At least the HMs with power do.
Haha you can usually tell, but at Google I've had my phone screen get excited about next steps and recruiter tell me no
