So I heard companies would not/don’t like hire international students with F1 visa who have only 1 H1B lottery left, is it true? I’m having a issue to be piped, so I’m thinking I should go back to my mother country to get my H1B (not sure if 2 months is enough to handle that) or just keep as F1 in OPT to apply other campanies and lottery next year. Update: sorry for any confusion! here’s the previous post:"Got Pivot less than 6 months (Tech Careers)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/knT4WzeP . Now I’m given 2 options: unpaid leave to get h1b and come back and leave, or go pivot soon and lose the h1b.
It's true. Specially Microsoft, Facebook. And it's not made up, there are instances of not being interviewed or offer being revoked in immigration background check. You are already at Amazon, why do you care? Amazon will take care of you
Thanks for info! Because my manager is kicking me out, he was trying to help me letting me get the H1B visa.
I don't get it, your manager was trying to get you H1B visa and now he's kicking you out? Why?
What is immigration background check ? Doing that opens up the company for potential lawsuits if things haven’t been called out before.
What lawsuits? Not everything is lawsuit. Companies can legally ask your work authorization, visa status. Not everything is protected class, companies can revoke offers based on immigration & most of companies are e-verify. There is nothing wrong in not hiring someone cz of immigration. Companies can legally refuse to sponsor someone. And they have been called out before. T&C is employment is valid upon demonstrating ability to work legally in US. Also, this employment is at-will & you or company can terminate the employment without any prior notice or reason.
I said if you don’t clearly specify before starting the process.
Which team at Amazon? How long been there?
Alexa, just 6 months. Here’s the previous story, if you’d like to take a look: "Got Pivot less than 6 months (Tech Careers)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/knT4WzeP
Which org? AWS or Alexa Or Retail? Are you on PIP? What’s the reason? Why would you be PIPed if you go to your mother country for H-1B stamping? That’s absurd. Amazon is not stupid enough to PIP people just for going for visa stamping. You need to provide more context.
Alexa, not yet, my manager is figuring out if I could go get H1B and come back and then just leave, or start pivot soon and then lose the H1B. Sorry for my unclear message, I was not piped because I’m going for stamping. Previous post:"Got Pivot less than 6 months (Tech Careers)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/knT4WzeP
What was the reason for PIP? Is it in Seattle or Bay Area?
Sorry for your situation. You dont need to go outside US to activate h1b if you are on F1/H4. The change of status happens automatically on October 1st. Why do you need to go outside US? Also start preparing hard as even if they decide to let you go you will still have 3-4 months to make sure you don't lose your status. Best of luck
Unfortunately my H1B is not change of status but consulate process, so I have to go back to my mother country if I wanna activate it. Yeah, I have to prepare and get next job. Thank you!

Sorry I just heard about it, and have that concern so I’d like to hear people’s options.
