Is it bad to end a system design early?

I feel I hit all the points I wanted to, I asked the interviewer if there was anything left that we should hit, and they said no, so we ended 10 min early.

  • Depends on the company. Big tech sys design never ends early because there’s always something to talk about and dive deeper in to. Usually there’s never enough time for the sys design interviews in my experience.

If it’s some random small company conducting the interview then they might just be looking for a cookie cutter answer and conducting the interview incorrectly.

I was given three things to go into, so I did, but I went above and beyond and went briefly into accessibility, performance, optimizations, this was a FE Sys design for a tier 2

Edit: pretty much after I hit on everything the interviewer wanted, they said “ok I have nothing else for you, we can get into questions if you have any” and so I briefly stated the other things mentioned above but there was no indication to go in depth, I don’t think the interviewer cared

  • I’m in the same boat after my interview with Amazon. I didn’t send super early but still ended. Kept asking should I go in-depth and interviewer kept saying no
