can I take my bf to Canada with me as part of Express entry or do I have to marry him for that?

edit: I meant, can I take him as common law partner instead of husband, which is more easy? Don’t wanna marry in this pandemic, but wanna start EE process asap.

tc: peanuts

Don’t tie marriage with money. You cannot with someone who is earning 300k but does not know how to handle themselves in public

  • Why you're dragging your bf to Canada ? He's not your dog or cat. Does he really want to immigrate to Canada ? And, if you really want him and vice-president , would not marry ? Pandemic can't be an excuse for not marrying

  • Common Law Partner is a legal status in Canada, similar to marriage. Once you list your BF as CLP, you need to mention this relationship in any future Canadian legal documents. Also, when a CLP relationship ends, one party has the same right of dividing shared property just as married couple.

Canada treats CLP very seriously, this is not same as US domestic partner relationship. It’s usually for people who want to marry but can’t legally, e.g. blood relationship, still stuck in another marriage, etc.

In short, CLP should not be taken lightly as a BF-GF relationship if you don’t plan to marry the other person in the future.
