Apparently empathy is only reserved for paying customers. The way TripActions handled letting go of 30% of their workforce today was absolutely disgraceful, but not surprising. Now more than ever leaders are being called upon to show their true colors and the fact that not a single person on the executive team offered to decrease their pay or bonuses to retain great talent as other tech companies have is indicitive of the type of spineless greed that is apparent not only in leaders at TripActions, but our society as whole. For the past several weeks we have been told to practice empathy with customers during this difficult time and yet a mass firing took place over zoom without so much as a thank you to employees or heads up from direct managers. Many of the employees were tenured (myself icluded) and genuinely expected more. Ariel, Ilan, Carlos, Meagan, Ciara, Rich and the entire executive team, should be ashamed that in a time like this they thought it was a good idea to lie to employees about job security. We were assured just last week we had plenty of cash to see us through 6-9 months. What they meant was we have plenty of cash to pay their salaries.
Sorry to hear about this. I think employees should spread the word to Glassdoor etc. to warn more people about the company ethics.
Shameful 😡 those leaders should have definitely taken at minimum a 30% cut.
actually they all did take a cut on pay with ariel taking the highest, was announced during an all hands
How much was the paycut?
Haha, and cutting 10% for everyone else
Curious how will they take back office equipment ? Usually u get escorted out ASAP for fear of leaking trade secrets or copying proprietary information. What is stopping that from happening here. Do they lock laptop access remotely ?
They would deactivate domain and email accounts typically
They turned off access to computers, email, and slack 10 mins after announcements
is tripactions losing tons of money due to covid?
Yeah, pretty much. Bookings have died down. There is 0 revenue.
Yes, the entire business model is based on travel. Great lesson not to work for a company with only one revenue source that can be taken down by medical pandemic, terrorism, or war.
You need to chill the fuck out. I’ve seen you everywhere asking the same question
Sorry to hear of all the layoffs folks. I've UX roles open on my team at Amazon (Seattle). Feel free to DM me.
6-9 month runway is not “plenty of cash”. It’s on the verge of shutting down

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
I’m sad to hear about your situation. However, it is clear that TripActions was led by a bunch of selfish corporatists from the recruiters who were clearing drinking the koolaid, to the CEO who wanted to live like royalty, and to their VC investors a16z, who employ people with sticks up their ass.

Is that supposed to be mocking? Anyway the post didn’t say if you had been laid off? Were you?
