If your current company is asking to see the offer you have from other companies, do you give them the full PDF file?

Is there any legal issue behind sharing the offer to my current company?

Leave the company. It will not end well if you don’t. I hate to admit it but once I know my employee is not interested in the team, all I can provide is well wishes. I actively manage them out and help them find the role they would like.

Actively manage them out? Sometimes employees are looking for more $$$ even though they like their team and work. You seem to be a terrible manager; but just one in a sea of thousands.

Yes, did you also read the part about helping them find what they like. I would expect them to talk to me about the need for more $$. If I cannot have that kind of trust with the person, it is best for them to work for someone else. I have never had to manage anyone out. I just ask them to take the offer. Counter offer is alway a bad idea unless it is strategic to prevent competitor from having that talent. However that kind of thing is comparatively rare.

I wouldn't do it. They either want to match or not. And you should have been ready to walk if you brought up another offer. Know your worth and stand your ground

I would never give that to another company. It’s on you if you’re fibbing, but in most cases counteroffers are issued and you use that as part of your salary expectations during negotiations.

At Google, retention offers are “relatively” common for L5+ high performers. You do have to share the offer letters (or some kind of written “proofs” such as email with recruter with numbers). And no, there’s no retaliation if you accept the counter. You can always change teams if you want. Maybe Google is the only company where accepting counter offers is safe?

You do NOT have to show anything.
You can simply say “I got this offer. I cannot share the document”. If they say you’re lying, then you know what to do.

They’ll know you’re telling the truth when you turn them down.
