I’ve been in ads org for almost two years now really enjoy it and great WLB. It doesn’t make much sense though for me to apply my single team’s experience to an org with like 30-40 teams. There is going to be good and bad. For what’s it’s worth, most teams around me seem to keep people a long time. This is in Seattle.

It is a slight risk to get on a bad team, but it’s unbelievably easy to team hop. If you hate it, find a new team in a month or two.

Pick a team that sounds interesting, go through the interview process, and get an offer. Spend some time chatting with mgr at that stage and really get to know them. If you’re getting bad vibes tell your recruiter you’d like to be considered for another team. They’re not gonna turn away a successful SDE2 candidate.

Don't know about NY, but the Ads org is probably one of the most toxic ones around. I had one coworker who moved from that org and he told me there was toxic bs flowing down the chain of command. Also, recently a manager from there is leading a team and I had the unfortunate experience of having a meeting with them doing a sign off on our project. It was obvious to me that my co worker is right. Avoid at all costs!
