Got reached out for a role w/ Google News-related verticals. Is this a thing?

Only thing I could really find was Sundar’s blog post circa 2020 about a 1b investment into news & how it’s the biggest financial commitment from the big G so far. Isit really that big tho? Can’t imagine 1b from G to be a genuinely big investment lol.

Non tech role, non US
Currently in a ~Series C startup
TC: base is sh*t (<100), but total tc more like 300 cos of (illiquid) appreciation. Hence also thinking if it’s worthwhile to make the move.

Any feedback/ideas welcome. thank you

I see, thanks fb! V helpful. Did your friend say anything about the role/group? Promising or don’t bother

    • She likes working there and has been there several years, but mentioned that projects can take a much longer time than other parts of the company due to number of stakeholders and extra scrutiny from the high-profile nature of the financial commitment. It sounds like an interesting space so maybe interview and see if the role sounds like a fit. I’m a non-tech Xoogler and teams can vary widely within the same org.

  • A friend works in this area based in Cambridge. It’s not a focus of the company if that’s what you’re asking - more like a well-funded public service. TC is what you’d get in any non-tech G role so depends on level and location.
