i have a virtual onsite coming up and have a system design interview as a part of it. I was thinking of using a physical whiteboard and pointing my laptop camera to it, but i noticed the focus is not accurate and the characters are blurry. I would really appreciate if people who went with this plan both on interviewee and interviewer side throw somelight on how they addressed it ? As an interviewer who interviews candidates, did you find any problems with physcial whitebords and camera ? any recommeded setup or ideas ? Thanks

  • Physical whiteboard doesn't work well as you described. Use Google drawing or other tools. My advice is write more. Don't try to draw much. You can mostly write your design.

Had blurred vision problems with physical whiteboard, avoid unless you have a super webcam, mine was ages old.

  • Recently i came across this wonderful tool

    https://excalidraw.com/

It supports collab sessions. You can also share your screen while you draw. It has nice keyboard shortcuts and i can draw with the same ease as drawing on paper.

Some companies will need you to use their own tools like google drawing which they add to feedback notes so check with ur recruiter before assuming you can use a physical whiteboard. I would suggest some online tool for sure so screen is clear n they can get screenshots which are visible.
