I-140 is approved and have 16 months left for current h1 to expire
Is it safe enough time for job change?

Generally how much time it takes for new company to do GC processing and get i140 approved again??

  • New company processing your GC has nothing to do with your H1B. When you switch companies the new company uses your current i140 to renew H1B (3 years). Once you join the new company usually in few months they start ur GC (which takes a year). Your old i140 never expires unless it’s revoked by previous company, usually they can do it if you leave with 6 months of approval.

Wait for 6 months after I140 approval before jumping the boat.

You can keep using your existing I140 to renew your H1B at all future employers
