Considering the refreshers and 401k match + IRA, you'd be putting in damn near $150k (minus a chunk deducted when RSUs vest) in the stock market. Still approx $100k a year going into the stock market.

Sure, you could catch a unicorn and get lucky, but FIRE is about taking safe bets, and I feel like a company with great refreshers is the best way to make sure you take home only a small chunk of cash that you can spend on bills, and then let the RSUs lead you to retirement.

Wanting to code after you FIRE is starting a side project and accidentally becoming a “bootstrapped startup founder.”

You can FIRE with no FAANG on your resume. I am FI with real estate investments (rentals).

    • That’s not OP’s point. He’s saying it’s a safe and easy way to FIRE if you work for Google or Meta.

I am not sure Meta is the best way. You are likely to get fired there before you FIRE

  • As long as the pay is the same, why are Meta / Google the better route? I don’t get the logic. Many companies have refresher too.
