Hi all,
I’m really new to investment. I invested 20K in SP500 ETF fund and 10k in MSCI fund. After a week, I already lost $200 and $90 in each fund respectively. Is this fluctuation expected? I meant to keep it at least two years anyway, but losing 1% seems like a lot, so just wanted to double check if this is expected and normal, or I happened to invest in the bad time.

Also, if youre not a market monkey, ETFs are the best way to diversify over multiple asset classes with minimal management. It is lazy and works (however, youre buying into an expensive market right now. Personally, Im 120k liquid on my trading account and full invested in my 401ks).
ALSO REMEMBER CASH IS A POSITION. It is not a loser position to hold. It means youre waiting for an entry point.
And yes, do not look at your long term investments daily. I check quarterly.
I trade stocks and stay away from options. I trade 4 or 5 stocks and know them inside and out. I pick fast movers ( Netflix, fb, delta are some I trade where I know levels, fundementals, etc). I am a technical trader that uses short stops on trades and maybe 1 to 2 month timeframes.
Ill get asked but I traded 7.8% gain against -6.25% vs the s&p last year. Year before that I got smoked by if I just kept cash in ETFs.
