Recruiter hung up because I didn't give her my current salary.

Full disclaimer: it is not illegal to ask current salary where I live. But still owing to some info I have read here, I didnt wanna give away my current salary on the first screening call. I told the recruiter that I'm willing to talk more about it in the upcoming stages, she goes like "sorry I dont understand, you dont wanna tell your salary?",
Me: "yes I'm not comfortable at this stage but once we find the fit I'll be willing to speak more on compensation."
Her: "thank you for your time" hangs up

It was just rude and I felt like being buried alive. What do you guys think, should have I given it away on the screening call? For my future screenings, should I tell them because I know they are gonna ask.

I seriously thought the same, but I dont know the thought that I blew it just kept coming to my mind. Also do the companies keep any sort of check on how the recruiters are actually screening the candidates?

Ok you ran into a rude person. It happens move on.

Also understand her too. She figured you’re being difficult, there are a lot of candidates who are willing to show their dick pick to get a job, why wasted her time on you?

I tell what’s my current salary. It saves both my and their time. If your salary is in lower percentiles then you may want to withhold it but that will also signal to a recruiter that you’re in lower percentiles. In my situation from game theory point of view it’s best to just disclose
