Need help deciding between two job offers. Cannot make up my mind :(

I’m currently working as a Product Manager with a team of 13 engineers (all of whom are based in the San Francisco Bay Area) and will be required to go into the office once we return to office later this year. I’m making $150,000 base and $35,000 annual bonus. I resigned and my boss countered by saying they’ll make the role remote (won’t have to come into office). They’re currently working on the paperwork to make the role remote. I’m wary of this because:
1. we’re JP Morgan Chase, how is Chase going to be okay with me working remote?
2. an executive said JP Morgan Chase would monitor remote employees and those who perform poorly would have to return to office.
3. my entire team (other PMs that report to my boss on my product) and the entire engineering team are in person. How would this arrangement work if I’m sitting in Phoenix and everyone else is meeting in person?? Imagine a meeting where all the engineers and PMs are in person and I’m joining from Zoom.
4. if my boss or skip level leave the firm tomorrow some manager could come and make my role in person because duhh it’s Chase!
5. Massive attrition on my org. Entire executive team has handed in resignations. People leaving everywhere.

I’m currently working out of Phoenix and received an offer from a former employer for $125,000 base 12% bonus in the Phoenix area for a hybrid role. I already signed the official job offer from former employer. The remote role in my current job is tempting but I don’t trust my current employer. Plus I would feel guilty backing out of an accepting role from former employer.

I don’t want to move to San Francisco Bay Area.

If everyone else is in office and you are remote at some point it will be a problem.

If you don't trust your current employer, you're going to be living with that stress if you stay.

  • I am a chase employee who went from office to full remote for 2 years now. Even though most of my team is back in office, I have been allowed to wfh even though I have had 3 manager changes in last 2 years. I am a top performer on team . Long story short, if they value you, they will allow you to stay remote, whatever happens on management side.

Why not stay with chase while you can and if any of the scenarios you listed happen, you go back to phoenix based companies? If you are not desperate for money or visa, worst case is a few months of unemployment while you look for a new job.

    • What would I say to my former employer/boss whose official offer letter I’ve already signed?

Depends on your relationship with them and the culture of that company. You can either tell them the truth, that you like them but the previous employer offered you a lot more money to stay so financially the move doesn’t make sense now but you’ll reach back out if things change in the future or you can make some personal excuse up with that same ending, that you really like them and reach back out if/when your situation changes.
