I have an offer from Facebook and trying to pick the most optimal start date given a few things:

1. Need to travel outside the country in December for about a month. Can manage with 2 weeks WFH and 2 weeks PTO. More holidays would be better though.
2. Bonus date at current company is 31st Jan so I lose all of it - around 25k if I leave before that
3. Around 12k RSU will vest on 15 March at current company, will lose all of it if I leave before that
4. Good time for boot camp
5. More importantly best time for team match when loads of options are available to join the best teams
6. Any way to time it best with respect to FB stock price 😄

I do want to join early but not sure if taking about a month leave/work from abroad after joining is a great idea. Also do not want to lose most of vacation days within 1 month of joining. However, I heard that the bootcamp is pretty chill plus it’s also holiday season so wondering if I can manage my abroad travel without even taking PTO. I’m not super concerned about monetary benefits as my FB TC is significantly higher so losing out on bonus would be covered by base and RSUs at FB. Mostly looking to have a comfortable vacation, optimize for team match and benefits.
PS- getting vacation at current company would be challenging as well due to work pressure but given that I’ll leave soon, not sure if I should stress over that.

Any advice is much appreciated.

If you join in dec you’ll get the nov ticker price for RSUs. Something to consider.

In a similar boat. Was deliberating between late Nov and Jan. Now I plan to take a break and join in Jan. Can't chase TC throughout life. You don't know when life stops chasing you! :D
Even though bootcamp will probably be chill, I would want to have my full focus on it and the subsequent team match. One advantage of joining well in to Q1 2022 might be that you can attend the bootcamp in person if you are not remote.

Regarding stock price next month be good based on what we have seen so far. But, I expect the stock to remain depressed for some time while the drama plays out in Congress.

With so many unknowns I would optimize for your personal situation and wrap up everything you want to before you join your next gig! Congrats!

Talk to friends and ex-colleagues regarding bootcamp experience - online v/s offline. And your recruiter too for pros/cons. They usually are extremely helpful.

One advantage of joining in Dec: you get prorated bonus and refreshers next yr. But, that amount wont be much and I am wiling to forgo that.

I decided to optimize for a comfortable break/vacation and recharge before I join.
