Recently interviewed at Facebook and Google to find out that they pay salaries equal to 1 level less than designers and 2 level less than SWEs.

Are there other companies I should interview at that pays better salary to UXR? (At least same as Designers) #tech

So basically they know their customers inside out, identify pain points and rally a team to solve that issue. How is that different than product management then?

PMs know their existing customers and rally the team to solve issues, factoring in business needs and technical feasibility etc. UX researchers are more like scientific and objective experts on people in general (e.g. potential customers), decoupled from business and tech constraints - they’ll tell you how it is without any ulterior motives. Plus they’re actually experts, not generalists. There’s plenty of great info on this out there with a little googling of the exact question in this thread.

You mean a L3 SWE and a L4 UXD earns as much as a L5 UXR at FB and Google? This is definitely disinformation at least for Google.

In smaller companies there are no UX researchers. Check the thread above to understand the nuance.
Designers will build the experience. Researchers will do qual/quand analysis and provide deep insight on the customers, behavior, needs and gap.

this is idiotic for sure...where do you think innovation is coming from? Exactly - from Researchers who have uncovered real problems that need to be solved.
