So I want honest opinion about working at as sr technical product manager in AWS no sugar coating or over dramatizing please
I value growth and want to move up the ladder but with out killing my WLB and burning out
Is this possible in AWS?
Once I move to AWS I see my self working there 2-4 years how fast can I move from sr to principle technical pm role?

AWS is very big. Which team there? EC2 is intense but good for growth.

Identity is one of the best places to be. Tons of opportunities to make promo-relevant things happen, and it has better WLB and leadership than most orgs.

Of course each of the many teams within Identity will vary somewhat.

Heard from a friend that it’s a good org to learn. They got promoted to L7 in 3-4 years but was it was pretty stressful to go through the process. WLB might be better than EC2 but I don’t think it is gonna be chill.

Don’t dream about WLB… 2-4 years from sr to principle is relatively fast and depends on luck.

WLB is getting better in some orgs but ways to go. Having said that you get to set boundaries and you need to decide if you want to push and get to L7 in 2 , 3 or 4 years this will determine your WLB.

I just keep hearing these horror stories about AWS and how it depends on each team - I am interviewing with the identity team currently
I wish I can have a way to get true insights on the culture of my team and see if this is something worth doing in my career last thing I want is burn out

Your interviewers is your window into what you can expect. All the interviewers are from your team. Even the bar raiser is from a sister org (usually). If they seem like people who don’t give a rats ass about WLB and brazen, expect that on the job. You can also have another call with the HM and ask them questions that will give you insights.

Lots of weird top down mandates.
