Hi,

I'm new here and would like to seek advice. I got an offer from Grab for a Software Engineering Manager role (TC 171k + Stock) and another one from NTUC (NE Digital) for a Principal Software Engineer role (TC 152k). I'm working towards a management track.

NTUC told me that they would line me up for an Engineering Manager role based on the strengths I've shown during the interview. Whereas, I would be starting as a manager in Grab. Both Hiring manager seems to like what I can bring to the table. And it seems I would like working with any of them.

I have not seen a lot of reviews and information about NTUC so I don't know what to expect.

YOE: 12+ years
Note: TC includes variable bonuses

Yes, same here. Didn't know they're hiring tech roles. Was just contacted by a recruiter. But yes they seem to have a big goal that requires some tech talents. Part of my hesitation even during interviews is how strong their tech tea is.

how high is principal at NTUC?
at Grab principal would be G6, so possibly NTUC is leveling you higher than grab

I'm not saying it matters, just something to consider

I actually don't what is the leveling at NTUC is, but thanks for replying. Anything more that I should consider in joining Grab? How's work-life balance? How about getting increments and promotions? Would you know how's life and workload like for an SE Manager at Grab?

Yes I actually am a G5 software manager. what I can say is it varies so much from team and org.
In my case I only manage a few ICs and the workload is bearable. overall my WLB is good.
Some others have quite larger scope than me and much more stressful roles.

Promos above G5 are quite difficult and political. However the G5 range is quite large so there's usually room for increments

Yeah. Thanks. By the way, mind sharing the return to office plan of Grab? Heard also that you are moving to One-north.

If NTUC will be matching Grab's offer and the role, would you be considering working for them knowing that they just started their digital transformation? Is there something that would make you think twice about joining Grab?

If you plan to stay in Singapore long term, I would actually give NTUC a chance.
There is probably more chances to make high impact as their digital arm is newer.

Grab has grown quite large, slow and political. and I believe they're giving less RSUS now so the chance making good money with IPO is much lower.

If you plan to leave Singapore then Grab brand probably looks better on resume
