Are they lowballing me? I was looking forward to it as the role and team seemed really nice. YOE - 4 Location - Remote, I am near Philly in South NJ and would like to stay. Current TC # 140k Viasat offered # 130k/yr + (one time) bonus 30k + (one time) RSU 20k #offer
You should definitely negotiate if this is their first offer. They generally don't pay great compared to even Qualcomm. There could be opportunity for refresh bonus and RSU later, but you have to play backstabbing politics to get it. YOE?
What position and location? ViaSat pays below market in general.
Updated location and YOE
Negotiated a bit and final offer came at 150k + 20k (onetime bonus) + 20k (onetime RSU)
Role? Viasat pays decent for San Diego since most companies don’t. They pay like a defense contractor, but without the full benefits of a large defense contractor. Qualcomm is an outlier for a San Diego company and pays more since they have to compete with Apple and the like, and they’re actually making money. If you expect huge TC as SW Engr from Viasat, you’d be disappointed.
Qualcomm is a hardware company.
I am at 4 YOE and 130k base for a SWE role. Your bonus sounds decent. What's the position title?
Yikes. I got rejected there a few years ago and don’t really regret it.
I know you..
