The software H1B Intel hires are not that sharp but occasionally when a good one gets hired they GTFO to FANG/Nvidia/Apple at the earliest opportunity. H1Bs hired today aren't concerned about Green Cards/if/when they ever get one. They're more concerned about getting paid fairly. There is a GPU compiler team at Intel Santa Clara that lost 50% of its Engineers to FANG in 2 months earlier this year !! 50% !! The software H1Bs remaining at Intel (with the exception of AIPG and compiler dev teams) are desperate like tu_madre says. Compiler Developers hired into Intel (and I would assume HP also) today are still very smart, having graduated from top schools too, and yes - they turned down FANG jobs to work on compilers at Intel. Intel is one of the few companies that will give new grads fresh out of MS with a specialization in compilers a real chance to work on compilers. The problem is that compiler folks get 2 years of experience at Intel then leave to FANG Nvidia or Apple for double the pay, again to work on compilers. The only sharp compiler folks still at Intel are oldies who stick around for the work life balance. Let's face it - compiler work puts most FANG jobs (infrastructure dev) to shame. Money isn't everything.
Some people aren’t after money at all they just love the place they’re and very passionate about stuff they do ! Some intel locations except bayarea have good base pay stock grants sucks tbh !
