I am leaving Uber. After multiple startups I am finally seeking work life balance. I borrowed time from my family and myself for too long and the reward doesn't outweigh the risks and the toll.
A lot is already written about best employers for developers, but not much is said about managers. Who has the best eng managers and best growth, challenges and opportunities for managers? Better managers mean a better life in my opinion. Managers in a company differ but how managers are hired and developed matters a lot.
What do you think of managers and their professional growth at Google and Apple? Google seems to care a lot about the long term. How about Apple? How do other companies contrast with either of these?
